Connectional

The Connectional Table (CT) works with general agencies, the Council of Bishops, and others to explore ways in which our worldwide missional partnerships can embody our vision of connectionalism.

“Connectionalism in the United Methodist tradition is multi-leveled, global in scope, and local in thrust…” Book of Discipline, ¶ 132

…It is rather a vital web of interactive relationships. We are connected by sharing a common tradition of faith, including Our Doctrinal Standards and General Rules (¶ 104); by sharing together a constitutional polity, including a leadership of general superintendency; by sharing a common mission, which we seek to carry out by working together in and through conferences that reflect the inclusive and missional character of our fellowship; by sharing a common ethos that characterizes our distinctive way of doing things. (¶132).

State of the Church Report

The 2019 State of the Church Report highlights the power of our worldwide connectionalism and reminds us that our church is so much more than its buildings, resources and assets, or its structure and organization. In the words of the hymn “We Are the Church,” The United Methodist Church is a people connected in mission and engaged in transformational ministries of compassion.

The annual State of the Church Report is created in collaboration with the Council of Bishops, the General Council on Finance and Administration and United Methodist Communications. It is a resource to help evaluate our current realities, to celebrate the momentum of our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, and to identify opportunities and challenges as we move forward in ministry.
